NSWYL Human Rights Committee launches the 2nd edition of the New Land New Law handbook in 4 languages
After 2 years of writing, rewriting, reviewing, editing, checking and translating, the 2nd edition, 2008, of New Land New Law: A Guide to the Legal System in NSW is finally here! This handbook is a plain language one stop shop legal information resource designed to assist new migrants and new refugees with settling down in their new Australian life. It contains 20 chapters covering various topics such as how to interpret your visa, how to get out of debt, where to find a lawyer, how the employment system works, how to survive a divorce, how to enforce your rights and what to do in court.
The team at Multimedia Languages & Marketing translated the Handbook and thanks to the contribution of the Law and Justice Foundation, the handbook is now available in English, Arabic, Farsi and simplified Chinese. Several thousand copies of the handbook have been distributed to Community Legal Centres, Centrelink offices, courts, libraries and other community organisations. The handbook is also available online (http://www.lawsociety.com.au/page.asp?partid=6306#publications)
