The first IESP component is now live

The first part of the Interpreter Employment Training Program (IESP) has been officially released, marking a significant step towards addressing the growing demand for interpreters in Queensland.

The IESP is an initiative led by the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, in collaboration with 2M Language Services and Settlement Services International (SSI), and is funded through the Workforce Connect Fund, powered by the Queensland Government’s Good People. Good Jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032

The program focuses on meeting the growing demand for interpreters in Queensland.

The IESP has two key components: professional development training for current and inspiring interpreters delivered by 2M Language Services and professional development for client-facing interpreters offered by Settlement Services International (SSI).

SSI has officially launched their professional development module: “Working with Interpreters“. The module will provide client-facing workers with practical knowledge and tips on how to best engage interpreters.

About the “Working with Interpreters” module:

Settlement Services International (SSI) has officially launched their component. The online learning module, “Working with Interpreters”, is now available to client-facing workers and offers practical advice on how to best engage interpreters.

Client-facing workers who may benefit from the “Working with Interpreters” module include customer service representatives, counsellors, real estate agents, language service providers, migration agents, doctors, nurses, support workers, caseworkers and social workers.

The module takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and covers topics such as recognising when an interpreter is needed, how to communicate effectively through an interpreter, and how to navigate sensitive situations with an interpreter.
