Why do I need digital learning language translations?

Digital learning language translation refers to the process of adapting educational content from its original language into the language of your target audience. This also involves digital learning localisation i.e. ensuring the tone, content and images are culturally appropriate and correct.

There are a number of reasons why digital learning translation and localisation can be valuable for your institution:

Helping your students learn more effectively

If your business is expanding locally, nationally or internationally, you will find more and more students who do not speak English. It’s hard to learn when you can’t understand or relate to the course content at hand — not only is the content inaccessible but it also has the potential to confuse or offend some students.

With this in mind, it’s crucial to opt for professional digital learning language translation services to ensure the content is accurate and tailored to each and every classroom.

Helping your tutors/teachers/course advisors deliver training

Educators are much happier and at ease in the classroom (or behind the camera) when their course content is available in their local language.

For one, educators can communicate the course content more effectively with students, eliminating the risk of confusion and lower grades. Second, providing access to translated/localised content can improve your staff’s overall job satisfaction — it shows you care about their culture and want to make their job easier.

Happier educators lead to higher productivity levels (at least 20% more, to be exact).

Overcoming cultural differences

A word-for-word translation can still cause confusion in other countries and regions. For example, if you use Australian dollar values in American course content, students will have a hard time understanding the conversion value. Likewise, an international audience would struggle with America’s imperial system of measurement i.e. feet, inches, pounds, ounces etc.

With this in mind, it’s crucial to adapt currencies, units of measurement, images and situations to meet the needs of your target audience. This will eliminate confusion and ensure both educators and students understand the content more easily.

Plus, you want your students to be able to connect with the course content and see themselves within the text/images/videos/audio. Localisation is a surefire way to personalise the learning experience and encourage a deeper understanding of the course content.

Minimising costs

Digital learning is more cost-effective than traditional training in the classroom — translating the same course content into a wide range of different languages can help reach more students both nationally and internationally. Plus, it allows you to cut down on learning hours — your educators won’t have to go through the same content several times just to make sure that they’ve covered everything and all students have received the same lesson.

At 2M Language Services, we’re committed to serving our customers and keeping their communication effective across all relevant languages. With this in mind, we engage professional and NAATI-certified translators to achieve quality, error-free material for all kinds of projects.

Our translators are native speakers and are carefully handpicked based on the project requirements and their unique experience. Plus, we complete stringent tests and reviews to ensure the linguistic material meets the standards and requirements of the intended audience.

Our LQA services include:

- Linguistic testing Our testers are trained to check for tone, context, natural-sounding language, grammatical errors, consistent terminology and appropriateness of cultural references/imagery.

- Third-party linguistic reviews — Once the linguistic testing is complete, a native linguistic, in-country third-party reviewer will carry out an in-depth assessment of the quality and consistency of the final deliverables.

- Terminology memory (TM), termbase (TB) and style guides — We maintain a TM, TB and a style guide to ensure the tone of your translation fits your company’s image. This ensures clear and accurate messaging from a brand perspective.

- Subject matter expert (SME) reviews — An experienced SME will review the subject matter and evaluate the industry-specific correctness, readability and appropriateness for your target audience.

- Reviewer training — Our linguistic reviewers complete formal training relevant to your standards. Our trainers are experienced and well-versed in training for quality assurance.

- Process development — We use advanced quality assurance and project management tools to produce error-free and natural translations. We uphold these standards of quality assurance with consistent reviews of our processes.

- Metric and data analysis — We analyse metrics and data to identify errors within the process and improve functionality and efficiency. We employ best-of-breed technology tools to monitor and analyse translation quality in real-time and reduce risk in the future.
