During the last week of October, 2M Director Tea Dietterich attended the annual tekom conference in Wiesbaden, Germany. This conference, together with tcworld and tekom fair, is one of the largest global events for technical communication. Of particular interest to 2M was Associations World, a special area of the trade fair where 21 international trade associations and organisations dealing with technical communication, translation and localisation were presented. As attendees and visitors are provided with the opportunity to meet renowned experts from all over the world, this part of the event is particularly helpful for export-oriented companies that are looking for country-specific requirements regarding technical documentation. Tea made useful contacts with a number of representatives, and the tekom program, including seminars and workshops, was diverse. Both the German as well as the international English streams offered valuable insights that will help 2M assist their clients efficiently and taking advantage of language technologies. 2M assists not only the Australian export industry, but any business in the world that is targeting non-domestic markets.

One of the exhibitors was GALA, the Globalisation and Localization Association, of which 2M Language Services is also a member. Tea attended the GALA networking dinner and mixed with old and new GALA board members as well as with representatives from ELIA, the European Language Industry Association. This was also a welcome opportunity to promote AUSIT, the Australian Institute of Interpreters & Translators, and increase exposure of Australian language professionals on the international arena.
