The German-Australian Chamber has kicked off 2016 with a bang. While technically this was not the first event of the year and their event program is already in full swing in both Melbourne and Sydney, last night marked the official launch of their 2016 activities. 2M CEO Tea Dietterich was in town to attend the event, mingle with Chamber Board Members and other business people from Australia’s German community, some of them Tea has known for almost 20 years. 2M has been a Chamber Member since 1999 and 2M General Manager Susanne Creak sits on the Chamber QLD Chapter Committee.

A fantastic evening with excellent food and an exquisite selection of wines in wonderful company. While more and more of the record 170 guests were making their way into the venue, X-Factor finalist Michael Duchesne set the tone for the night with renditions of some famous soul and jazz classics.

Official proceedings got underway not before long, with Jackie Taranto, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors, welcoming everyone and elaborating on the highlights of the German-Australian relationship and what to expect from both the ongoing work of the bilateral government Advisory Group installed by the Australian PM and the German Chancellor, and the role the Chamber plays in this. Jackie then thanked and invited to the stage the Honorary President of the Chamber, Lucy Hughes Turnbull AO. Lucy addressed the guests by emphasising the opportunities that lie in continued and reinvigorated German-Australian relations, and presented a number of examples that demonstrate how in her view the two countries can benefit from each other.

Concluding the order of speeches was Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia, Member of the Chamber Board, and host for the night. Andrew elaborated on the success that Audi have been enjoying in Australia over the last few years, the passion for what they do, and their ambitions for 2016. The highlight of his presentation was arguably the screening of the Audi America Superbowl ad.
