Meeting Urgent Demand: New Interpreter Program set to Transform Interpreter Services for Queensland’s Critical Sectors

2M Language Services is partnering with the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) to launch the Interpreter Employment Success Program (IESP).

Funded by the Queensland Government Department of Employment, Small Business, and Training, the IESP aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of interpreter services across essential sectors including health, legal, education and emergency services in the state of Queensland.

Despina Amanatidou, Head of Interpreting at 2M Language Services said:

“We’re proud to partner with such key organisations to ensure all culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in Queensland can access essential services without language barriers.”

“By equipping interpreters with the tools and training they need, we are taking a step towards bridging communication gaps across Queensland.”

“We are committed to fostering a skilled interpreter workforce that meets the diverse needs of Queensland’s important sectors.”

“The program provides a holistic opportunity for growth, tailored to bilingual speakers, current interpreters, and interpreter service users alike.”

Who Can Apply?

The IESP is open to bilingual speakers, current interpreters, and interpreter service users.

The program offers bilingual speakers, such as migrant and First Nations language speakers, a pathway to becoming a professional interpreter.

The IESP will engage the current interpreter workforce, equipping them with an enhanced professional tool kit inclusive of technology and AI training to meet the growing demand for interpreter services.

Employers and interpreter service users will gain understanding of, when, why and how to effectively leverage interpreter services to maximise their impact and accessibility.

What does the IESP include?

The IESP is a self-paced 2-year program seeking to attract new interpreters, retain the current workforce, and train service providers on how to engage interpreters.

As a hybrid training model, the IESP will consist of both online and in-person sessions to support the diverse needs of all participants.

The program includes:

  • 10 self-paced course modules with exams at the end of each module.
  • 10 tutorials to support learning and module preparation.
  • 10 industry induction webinars.
  • 2 onsite information sessions.
  • 4 onsite workshops on sensitive topics e.g. VAD, DV, self-care.
  • Monthly networking sessions.
  • Workplace shadowing and simulation.
  • "Working with Interpreters" session for service providers.

Expressions of Interest

The Interpreter Employment Success Program (IESP) invites expressions of interest.

The program is open to bilingual speakers, current interpreters, and interpreter service users.

Interested parties are encouraged to visit the IESP webpage to learn more about the program and submit their expression of interest.

2M Language Services looks forward to this collaboration and is committed to addressing the increasing demand for interpreter services across Queensland.
